Many symptoms use a six-point intensity scale from Not at all through Extreme; life factors and some cycle items use yes or no instead. This article explains what each level means, which cards open the intensity sheet, and how saved values feed Home sorting and Reports.

The intensity scale

  • Six levels in order: Not at all, Minimal, Mild, Moderate, Severe, Extreme.
  • Stored as numeric values 1–6 on the daily log for that calendar date.
  • Cleared or unlogged is value 0—distinct from choosing Not at all (value 1).
  • Card progress rings on Home and Daily Tracking reflect the logged level.
  • Reports charts, history, correlations, and DSM-5 export read the same 1–6 values.
  • Phase and PMDD-related insights are estimates from logged data—not clinical diagnosis.

Which items use intensity

  • NUMERIC trackable items (value type Intensity 1–6) open the intensity sheet on tap.
  • Most physical and emotional symptoms are numeric in seed data.
  • BOOLEAN items (Yes/No) toggle on a single tap—no intensity sheet.
  • Period Flow, Cervical Mucus, Digestion categories, and most default life factors are boolean.
  • Custom items can be created as either type in tracking preferences—see related help.

To open Daily Tracking from Home or the + menu, see Tracking symptoms for a day.

Open the intensity sheet

In the app

Open Red Tent PMDD to see the live screen walkthrough for this step.

Download the app
01
Daily Tracking
Open from Home Add or Add More, or Track Symptoms on the + menu—the preview scrolls to a numeric symptom card such as Anxiety.
02
Symptom or Life Factor
Select the pill for the item type you are logging; numeric items under either pill open the intensity sheet on tap.
03
Item card (intensity)
Tap a numeric card—the intensity sheet slides up from the bottom. Boolean cards toggle immediately instead of opening the sheet.

Choose a level and save

In the app

Open Red Tent PMDD to see the live screen walkthrough for this step.

Download the app
01
Cancel
Dismisses the sheet and reverts to the value when the sheet opened—there is no X close button in the header.
02
Save
Persists the selected level and dismisses the sheet; disabled when nothing changed or when the current value is 0 (unlogged).
03
Item header
Shows the trackable item name and description when one is set for that item.
04
Central icon and ring
Animates to reflect the selected intensity level as you choose an option.
05
Intensity options
Six radio options from Not at all through Extreme; re-tapping the selected option clears the entry to unlogged (value 0).
06
Remove Symptom
When logging under the Symptom pill, tap Remove Symptom; under Life Factor, tap Remove Life Factor—each label uses the singular tracking type name to clear that item for the header date.
07
Swipe down
Dismisses the sheet the same way as Cancel in Daily Tracking fullSheet mode.

Boolean items skip the sheet—tap the card once to mark yes or no for the header date.

01
Item card (yes or no)
Single tap toggles logged state; the ring is full when logged and empty when not. There is no Save or Cancel—changes apply immediately for the selected calendar day.
02
Stress
Default life factors such as Stress and Travel use this boolean pattern; see Tracking life factors for context.

Where intensity shows up

  • Home Daily check-ins—logged numeric cards show ring fill proportional to intensity; cards sort by intensity descending.
  • Tap a filled Home card—opens that item in Reports display mode, not the intensity sheet.
  • Edit intensity—return to Daily Tracking for the same calendar date and tap the numeric card again.
  • Check-in carousel—same six labels inline with auto-save on selection; no Save or Cancel (alternate path).

How intensity affects Reports

  • Symptom and life-factor history charts plot numeric values 1–6 over time.
  • Boolean items appear as logged or unlogged (0/1) in history and sort differently.
  • Correlations and phase breakdowns weight numeric intensities across your logged cycles.
  • PMDD and DSM-5 export views use logged numeric intensities—pair with Reports tab overview for navigation.
Choosing Not at all records a log at the lowest intensity (value 1). Remove Symptom, Remove Life Factor, or re-tapping the selected radio option clears the entry entirely (value 0). Both are valid—pick the one that matches what you mean.
🔒Daily intensity values sync with your Apple ID through iCloud when enabled—they are not stored on Red Tent servers. Optional research sharing is separate and revocable in Settings.
