After you sign in or open the app on a device without local data, Red Tent downloads your cycle, symptoms, and journal from iCloud before Home opens. This article explains when the Syncing data... screen appears, how long to wait, and what to do if it never finishes.

Syncing data... is a full-screen wait screen you cannot leave. The app finishes its first iCloud download for this device before you can use tabs or Settings.

What you see on the sync screen

  • Full-screen blocking view with a moon-phase progress indicator and the Syncing data... label.
  • Wait only—no cancel, back, or tab bar during this state.
  • Data comes from your private iCloud—not Red Tent servers.
  • The screen clears automatically when the initial download completes—you cannot dismiss it manually.

When you see Syncing data...

  • First sign-in—after Sign in with Apple succeeds, before Terms/profile onboarding or Home.
  • Return launch on a new device or after local data was cleared—Red Tent remembers your sign-in but has no tracking history stored on this device yet.
  • Return launch on the same device when your data is already stored locally—the app skips sync and opens Home directly.
  • Brief launch splash (brand lockup) during startup checks is not the sync screen.

How long to wait

  • Timing depends on network quality, iCloud load, and how much history you have—there is no fixed time to quote.
  • Stay on the screen until it clears—switching apps is OK; force-quitting may restart the download.
  • Large histories can take longer on first device import—that is normal.
  • If the screen persists well beyond a reasonable wait, see If syncing never finishes below.
After Home opens, iCloud may keep syncing in the background—that is normal and does not show Syncing data... again. This article covers only the one-time blocking download on launch.

When sync finishes

New users go to Terms and profile setup first. Returning users with a completed profile open Home directly—the preview below shows that Home path only.

Syncing data...
Clears automatically when the first iCloud import finishes and the app creates or finds your user record.

Terms and profile setup
New users land on onboarding to accept Terms and Privacy and complete profile fields before Home opens.

Opens the main tab bar on Home for returning users with profile complete, as shown above.

Account Setup Failed
Rare alert if user creation fails after sync. The app returns to the welcome screen before the alert appears. Tap OK and retry sign-in—see Signing in with Apple.

First-time users continue to Terms and Privacy acceptance after sync—see Accepting Terms and Conditions.

If syncing never finishes

  • Check device network and that you are signed in to iCloud in Settings.
  • Confirm the same Apple ID you used to sign in to Red Tent.
  • Force-quit and reopen once—on return launches with saved sign-in, Red Tent restarts the download from iCloud. During first sign-in before setup finishes, you may need to sign in again.
  • Persistent failure or iCloud unavailable messages—see iCloud or Apple ID errors.
  • Sync finished but Home looks empty—see Data not showing or missing.
You cannot open Settings, tabs, or Help while Syncing data... is showing—wait for it to finish or follow the troubleshooting links above.
