Red Tent needs a working Apple ID and iCloud on your device to sign in and keep your cycle and symptom logs in your private iCloud. Use this article when you see iCloud unavailable messages, sign-in failure alerts, or get signed out after iCloud stops working—not for the blocking Syncing data... screen on launch.

When you need this article

  • Welcome screen shows a status message and Open Settings instead of Continue with Apple.
  • An Authentication Failed or Account Setup Failed alert appears during sign-in.
  • You were using the app and suddenly return to the welcome screen after an iCloud problem.
  • Syncing data... on launch never finishes—that is a different article.

For the full welcome-screen sign-in walkthrough, see Signing in with Apple.

Quick checks first

  • Confirm Wi‑Fi or cellular data is working—Could not determine Apple account status often means no network.
  • In the device Settings app, open Apple Account and verify you are signed in with the Apple ID you intend to use.
  • After changing anything in Settings, switch back to Red Tent PMDD—the app re-checks iCloud when it becomes active.
  • Force-quit and reopen once if the welcome screen still looks stuck after fixing Apple Account.
Red Tent cannot open in-app Settings or tabs until sign-in succeeds. Device Settings is where Apple ID and iCloud are fixed.

Welcome screen: iCloud not ready

When CloudKit reports that iCloud is not ready, the welcome screen replaces Continue with Apple with a status message and Open Settings. The exact wording depends on your device state—Signing in with Apple lists each message type.

In the app

Open Red Tent PMDD to see the live screen walkthrough for this step.

Download the app
01
Status message
Read the italic message above Open Settings—it tells you whether you need to sign in to Apple Account, resolve a restriction, re-authenticate, or check network.
02
Open Settings
Tap Open Settings on the welcome screen. Red Tent opens the device Settings app at the top level—not always directly on Apple Account.
03
Apple Account
In Settings, tap your name at the top (Apple Account). Sign in, verify iCloud is enabled, or follow Apple's prompts for the issue shown.
04
Return to Red Tent PMDD
Switch back to the app. Red Tent re-checks CloudKit when the app becomes active; Continue with Apple appears when iCloud status is available.

Sign-in failure alerts

  • Cancel Sign in with Apple — you return to the welcome screen with no alert.
  • Authentication Failed — non-cancel Apple authorization failure. Message: Sign in failed. Please try again.
  • Account Setup Failed — Red Tent could not finish creating or loading your user after Apple sign-in. The message varies (iCloud dropped, save error, or session issue).
  • iCloud unavailable during sign-in — if iCloud becomes unavailable after Apple's sheet succeeds, sign-in is blocked and Account Setup Failed may appear before you reach Syncing data...
01
Authentication Failed
Tap OK on the alert. You stay on the welcome screen. Fix network or Apple Account if needed, then tap Continue with Apple again.
02
Account Setup Failed
Tap OK. The app returns to the welcome screen. Follow the device Settings steps below, then retry sign-in. If the alert repeats after iCloud is healthy, force-quit and reopen once.
03
OK
Dismisses either alert. Alerts do not deep-link to Settings—you use Open Settings on the welcome screen or open Settings manually.

iCloud lost while you were signed in

If you sign out of your Apple ID in device Settings—or iCloud becomes unavailable while Red Tent is open—the app signs you out automatically to protect your data.

  • You may see Account Setup Failed with Your iCloud account is no longer available. Please sign in again.
  • Local session and keychain credentials are cleared—you land on the welcome screen.
  • Tracking data already in your iCloud is not deleted; it becomes reachable again after you sign in with the same Apple ID.
  • Optional research sharing and in-app account settings are separate—see Your account and Privacy and legal when you are signed in again.
🔒Cycle, symptoms, and journal entries sync through your private iCloud—not Red Tent servers. Fixing Apple ID restores access; it does not send your health data to our servers.

Fix Apple ID and network in device Settings

01
Settings
Open the device Settings app—from Open Settings on the welcome screen or the Settings icon on your Home Screen.
02
Apple Account
Tap your name at the top. Sign in if prompted, confirm the correct Apple ID, and check that iCloud is on for this device.
03
Network
If status messages mention connection problems, verify Wi‑Fi or cellular in Settings before returning to Red Tent.
04
Parental controls or restrictions
When the welcome message mentions restricted iCloud access, resolve Screen Time or organization limits in Settings—sign-in cannot proceed until restriction clears.
05
Return and retry
Open Red Tent PMDD again. Tap Continue with Apple when it appears. New users continue through Syncing data... and Terms; returning users with a completed profile open Home.
