When a Safety Plan screen, Education article, or other Resources item will not open or shows an error, start with Retry and a connection check. This article covers load failures—not how to build your Safety Plan or browse Resources for the first time.

When you need this article

  • Self-Care + Safety Plan opens but an Error alert says your plan could not load.
  • A Resources sub-tab shows an error message with a Retry button instead of its usual list.
  • You open a catalog card and the detail screen shows Content not available or Failed to load content.
  • The App help tab says Help content is unavailable right now.
  • You need Toolkit hub layout or Safety Plan editing steps—see related articles instead.

First time opening Resources or the Toolkit hub? See the Resources tab overview and Toolkit overview before troubleshooting load errors.

Quick checks first

  • Confirm Wi‑Fi or cellular data is working—some Resources content loads from the bundled catalog on first visit.
  • Tap Retry on any error screen before deeper steps.
  • Switch to another main tab and return to Resources, or force-quit Red Tent once and reopen.
  • Note whether one item fails or an entire sub-tab—single-item errors often mean that resource is unavailable in your app version.
Most Resources content—including your Safety Plan—loads from data stored on your device. Fixing connection or retrying usually resolves temporary load errors; missing catalog files are not fixed by signing out.

Reach Toolkit from Resources

Safety Plan opens from the Toolkit hub hero card. The preview shows Toolkit selected inside Resources—the same surface where you tap Open on Self-Care + Safety Plan.

In the app

Open Red Tent PMDD to see the live screen walkthrough for this step.

Download the app
The preview shows the Toolkit hub—not an open Safety Plan screen. Load-error alerts appear after you tap Open on the hero card.
01
Resources
Tap Resources in the bottom tab bar. See the Resources tab overview if the main tab or sub-tab row is unfamiliar.
02
Toolkit
Under the Resources title, select Toolkit. The hub scroll shows the Self-Care + Safety Plan hero at the top.
03
Self-Care + Safety Plan
Find the hero card with subtitle 7 sections · made in advance. See Toolkit overview for the full hub layout.
04
Open
Tap the Open pill to launch the full-screen Safety Plan flow. If loading fails, continue with Safety Plan shows Error below.

Safety Plan shows Error or will not open

Red Tent loads your Safety Plan from on-device storage when Open succeeds. A load failure shows an Error alert—not the plan editor. Building or editing sections is covered in Building your Safety Plan.

  • Error alert title: Error.
  • Could not load your safety plan. Please try again. — Core Data fetch failed; tap OK and retry Open after quick checks.
  • User session not found. — sign-in session missing; return to the app after confirming you are signed in.
  • Safety plan is not available. — rare navigation fallback when the plan screen cannot be created.
  • A loading spinner may cover the screen briefly before the alert appears.
01
Error
Read the alert message, then tap OK. The alert dismisses—you remain on or return toward the Safety Plan screen.
02
OK
Dismisses the alert. Use Back to return to the Toolkit hub if you need a fresh start.
03
Open
From the Toolkit hero, tap Open again after network checks or a force-quit. Do not expect a Retry button on the Safety Plan alert itself.
04
Building your Safety Plan
If the plan opens but sections are empty or you need edit and PDF steps, see Building your Safety Plan—not this load-failure article.
🔒Your Safety Plan stays on your device—it is not stored on Red Tent servers. A load error does not mean your answers were sent elsewhere.

Education, Research, or Toolkit tab stuck

  • When a sub-tab cannot load its catalog, you see an error message centered on the tab with a Retry button.
  • Retry reloads categories or research works from local storage—the label reads Retry.
  • A loading overlay may appear across the tab while data loads.
  • On Research, pull down the paper list to refresh after you fix connection issues.
  • An empty list with no error is different—see Education or Research browsing articles for empty states.
01
Retry
Tap Retry on the error view. The tab reloads its catalog without leaving Resources.
02
Switch sub-tabs
Try Education or Research to see whether the problem is Toolkit-only or all Resources tabs.
03
Resources
Leave Resources via another main tab, then return. Nested navigation resets to the main Resources view.

One item shows Content not available

When only one Education article, research paper, or toolkit row fails, the list may load fine but the detail screen cannot show body content.

  • Content not available — the catalog entry has no content payload for this app build.
  • Failed to load content — bundled markdown for that item is missing or corrupt; a secondary error line may appear below the title.
  • Other cards in the same category still open — the item may be unavailable until a future app update.
  • Bookmarked items that later fail still show the same messages when reopened.

App help tab unavailable

The App sub-tab under Resources reads bundled help articles. If help-content.json cannot load, you see Help content is unavailable right now. Please try again later.—with no Retry button on that screen.

01
App
Select the App sub-tab under Resources. If the unavailable message appears, other Resources tabs may still work.
02
Force-quit
Close Red Tent from the app switcher and reopen once. Help content reloads from the app bundle on launch.
03
Getting more help
If App help stays unavailable, see Getting more help for support contact options.

Urgent support

🔒Load errors are not the same as a mental-health crisis. For urgent support, use the Hotline in Resources or crisis options in Toolkit sessions—see Crisis hotline for placement and calling behavior.
